Gaming phones are all the rage these days and many manufacturers are now jumping on the bandwagon to capitalise on this trend. Asus was the first one to commercialise this on a global scale with the ROG Phone and if the leaks are to be believed, then the upcoming ROG Phone 2 will democratize several new concepts into the gaming smartphone industry. The ROG Phone 2 has leaked massively and there’s so much to learn about this phone.
According to leaked certification recently found on TENAA, the ROG Phone 2 is a massive upgrade from the previous generation in various aspects. In terms of specifications, the ROG Phone 2 comes with all the 2019 bells and whistles a modern gaming phone is supposed to feature. It’s coming with a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, which is a more powerful iteration of the regular Snapdragon 855, promising a 15 per cent boost in graphics performance and 4 per cent boost in CPU performance.
On top of that, to assist with the extreme levels of performance, Asus could be shipping it with up to 12GB RAM – the same amount as you can find on a OnePlus 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. This phone will also come with up to 1TB of onboard storage.
Beyond the chipset, the display also gets upgraded to a massive 6.59-inch display and like the first generation phone, it will probably use an AMOLED panel. The display will support refresh rates up to 120Hz and the user can dial it down to 90Hz or even 60Hz depending on the requirement. The leaked images show a screen with slightly thick bezels similar to what we have seen on the Black Shark 2 and Nubia Red Magic 3.
An important parameter for a gaming phone is the battery life and the ROG Phone 2 is going all out with a massive 5800mAh battery – no other gaming smartphone currently has a bigger battery than this one. A battery as big as this should easily offer a two-day battery life even with moderate loads.
As for the design, Asus seems to haven’t changed much about the design of the phone. It looks quite identical to the previous generation ROG Phone. The rear design now has one lesser heat vent but all the ports remain similar to the first-generation phone.
The ROG Phone 2 is set to launch on July 23 in China.
